Seaweed Fertiliser Trials: Nurturing Our Fields, Supporting Our Herd

At Tresemple Farm, we’re always looking for ways to deepen our commitment to organic and regenerative farming. Every decision we make starts with the land and the animals it supports. This summer, we began a new trial using a natural seaweed fertiliser, an approach that blends Cornish tradition with modern regenerative practices.

Why We Chose Seaweed Fertiliser

Cornish seaweed is rich in trace minerals and nutrients; it has long been seen as a gift from the sea to the land. Today, we’re revisiting that tradition in a refined way, working with AquaCulture’s organic seaweed fertiliser.

As Rhys Morris from Tresemple Farm explains:

“Normally, we’d never use a sprayer on our land, but because AquaCulture’s fertiliser is 100% natural and approved for organic systems, it felt right to make an exception. We see this as an opportunity to enhance our soil without compromising our values.”

Focusing on Our Grass and Grazing

Healthy, nutrient-rich grass is the foundation of everything we do.

Our herd depends on it for a balanced diet, and in turn, the quality of their grazing shapes the flavour and nutrition of the beef and lamb we produce.

To test the benefits of seaweed fertiliser, we sprayed one grazing field while leaving the neighbouring field untreated. This side-by-side approach allows us to compare growth, colour, and resilience clearly.

Sustainability and Soil Health Benefits

Seaweed naturally supports both soil and plant health, making it an ideal partner for regenerative farming. By bringing nutrients from the sea back to the land, it helps to:

  • Support stronger, healthier grass growth
  • Improve soil structure and microbial activity
  • Build resilience against stress, such as drought or heavy grazing

This means healthier fields, happier animals, and a lighter environmental footprint.

Early Results from the Trial

Even at this early stage, the difference is already evident. Within three weeks, the seaweed-treated field showed impressive growth and vitality.

Rhys Morris continues:

“We’ve measured over 30% more growth in the seaweed-treated field compared to the control field. Not only is the grass taller, but it’s noticeably thicker, with a deeper, more vibrant colour. It’s the kind of improvement you can see just by walking the field.”

What This Means for Our Livestock and Our Customers

The benefits of this trial extend beyond the soil. Healthier pastures mean our cattle enjoy a more nutrient-dense diet, leading to healthier, higher-welfare animals.

For our customers, this translates into organic beef and lamb that reflect the very best of regenerative farming: rich flavour, natural nutrition, and a clear commitment to sustainability.

Looking Ahead: Continuing the Trial

The trial is ongoing, and we’re committed to monitoring results closely.

Over the coming months, we’ll gather more data on soil health, grass quality, and animal nutrition. This extends far beyond short-term results for us, as we’re focused on farming in a way that sustains the land for future generations.

Taste the Difference of Regenerative Farming

At Tresemple Farm, every step we take towards healthier fields and animals is also a step towards better food on your plate.

Our seaweed fertiliser trial is just one example of how we’re blending tradition and innovation to bring you beef and lamb that truly embody our values.
