How to Store and Freeze Fresh Meat from the Farm

Tresemple Farm’s beef and lamb arrive freshly prepared, vacuum-sealed, and clearly labelled with use-by dates and refrigeration guidance.

This careful packaging protects the meat’s natural flavour and ensures every cut stays fresh from our farm to your door.

Proper storage not only keeps the meat safe to eat but also helps you enjoy its best texture, taste, and nutritional value.

Understanding Farm-Fresh Meat

Tresemple Farm’s meat is minimally handled, naturally reared, and free from preservatives, ensuring it’s as close to its natural state as possible. Since it isn’t artificially treated or bulk-packed, it should be stored or frozen promptly after delivery.

Each vacuum-sealed pack locks in freshness until it’s ready to cook or freeze, allowing you to enjoy the taste that truly reflects the care and attention given to every animal raised on the farm.

Storing Fresh Meat in the Fridge

Keep the meat sealed until you’re ready to use it, storing it in the coldest part of the fridge, ideally on the bottom shelf to avoid cross-contamination. Always check the use-by date printed on the label before cooking.

General fridge storage times:

  • Beef and lamb joints: up to 5 days (if unopened)
  • Steaks and chops: 3–4 days
  • Minced meat: 1–2 days

Once opened, it’s best to use the meat within 24 hours or freeze it immediately to preserve freshness.

Freezing Tresemple Meat the Right Way

Our packaging makes freezing easy; you can place the packs straight into the freezer without needing to rewrap them. For best results:

  • Freeze as soon as possible after delivery.
  • Write the freezing date on the label.
  • For partial portions, rewrap tightly in foil or freezer-safe bags to prevent freezer burn.

Recommended freezing durations:

  • Beef joints: up to 12 months
  • Lamb joints: up to 9 months
  • Steaks, chops, and mince: 6–9 months

This approach keeps your meat tender and full of flavour, even months after purchase.

Defrosting and Cooking Safely

To defrost safely, move the meat from the freezer to the fridge and allow it to thaw slowly overnight. Keep it sealed while defrosting to retain its natural juices.

Always cook thoroughly, ensuring the internal temperature reaches safe cooking levels. Avoid refreezing raw meat once it has thawed unless it has been thoroughly cooked first.

Reducing Waste and Using Every Cut

Every cut from Tresemple Farm is valuable, so small steps can help reduce waste:

  • Freeze cooked leftovers in meal-sized portions.
  • Use bones and trimmings for homemade stocks or soups.
  • Cook larger joints and enjoy cold cuts the next day.

These habits ensure you get the most out of every order while supporting sustainable eating practices.
